Giving the Gift that is Truly Unique: Donating to Charity

March 27, 2011

Most of us are faced with the same problem whenever the holidays arrive or whenever it's someone's birthday. You've likely had this dilemma more than once before. What do you give someone who apparently seems to have everything? What kind of gift do you give that will really surprise its recipient? What gift can you give that is going to put a huge smile on your recipient's face when they see what it is?

A lot of people won't mind getting things, but for most, what they are given really isn't important. Despite the prevailing commercialism today, many people still appreciate the thought behind the gifts. Most people would appreciate receiving a gift that comes from the heart; price is often secondary. A gift that is truly given from the heart is priceless. A priceless gift is something that brings joy to both the recipient and the gift giver.

So what's a meaningful gift to give? Here's a unique gift idea: making a charitable donation in the name of the recipient. A charitable donation is one gift that is truly out of the box. It not only brings joy to the recipient and you, the gift giver...it brings joy to the actual recipient of the donation as well.

Put yourself in the shoes of the gift receiver. How would you feel when you open a card and see that a donation to a worthy cause was made in your name? Really, how would you feel inside? Unless you're a completely materialistic person, this kind of gift is one that will make you all warm and fuzzy inside. You'll realize that it's a fantastic gift that is truly meaningful.

There are literally thousands of charitable organisations you can donate to. You'll find local, national, and international charitable organisations. Which one do you choose? Take your cue from the recipient of your gift. For instance, is your best friend a staunch supporter of the fight against cancer? Perhaps she is into promoting literacy. Your gift donation can buy a sack of corn to a poor family in Cambodia or a bicycle to a family man in Bangladesh or a goat to a mother in Kenya or even a well to provide fresh water to a whole community in a remote area in the Philippines.

Water, livelihood, food -- these are things that many of us take for granted today. However, these things are vital commodities in poor countries. These commodities may not cost us a lot of money, but for people in poor countries, these commodities are a luxury that only a few of them can truly afford. And it is by donating to charitable organisations that these people are able to have these commodities.

So instead of giving the latest gadgets and toys to your loved ones and friends on their birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any other occasion, try donating in their name. This unique gift idea is sure to bring great joy to its recipients.
